DEPRESSION COUNSELING

You might be thinking:

  • There is no hope

  • I am worthless

  • Nothing can make my life better

  • I don’t enjoy anything anymore

  • I have no motivation

  • No one understands what I’m going through

  • I’m so lonely

  • I don’t want to interact with anyone

  • What’s the point?

  • This is never going to end

  • I wish I could just disappear

  • I am so sad all the time

  • I’m constantly tired

  • It’s pointless for me to try

There is hope!

Working with depression in therapy, we get underneath the surface symptoms. We learn how to work with the symptoms. I work with research-based ways to alleviate suffering to help you discover and implement practical ways to get in touch with your joy.

My clients have found that our time together has helped them to learn how to deal with the symptoms of depression. We incorporate activities that positively affect the client’s state of mind. We gently learn new ways of responding to the client’s nervous system and brain chemistry. We make sure that there are resources and support in place. We pinpoint destructive narratives, and build positive narratives of self. Feeling understood and cared for is a vital part of my treatment.

When I begin work with a client on relieving depression, I notice that they are struggling with many of the same issues:

  • Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness

  • Angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters

  • Loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities, such as sex, hobbies or social activities

  • Sleep disturbances, including insomnia or sleeping too much

  • Tiredness and lack of energy, so even small tasks take extra effort

  • Reduced appetite and weight loss or increased cravings for food and weight gain

  • Anxiety, agitation or restlessness

  • Slowed thinking, speaking or body movements

  • Feelings of worthlessness or guilt, fixating on past failures or self-blame

  • Trouble thinking, concentrating, making decisions and remembering things

  • Unexplained physical problems, such as back pain or headaches

  • Frequent or recurrent thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts, and suicide attempts

We will work collaboratively to face these issues head-on in a supportive, effective and safe way!

Clients I’ve worked with have learned to cope with their depression so that they can approach life with new motivation, happiness, and excitement. They are able to blossom in relationships, and finally find freedom from the clutches of overwhelming sadness. They’ve made positive changes to transform their depressed thoughts and feelings and to robustly live the lives they’ve dared to want. You can, too. I look forward to helping you find and live your joy!
